April 2008: Ten thousand users of the nationwide Wireless@SG who have signed up with iCell Network, one of Singapore’s major wireless network providers, will get a bonus in the form of a free six-month licence of a robust security solution that they can run off their USB flash drives and Apple iPods.
Ohanae, a home-grown security company with offices in Singapore and California, teamS up with iCell Network to offer this six-month trial of its SecurWorkplace security solution.
Using patent-pending technology, Securworkplace creates unique strong passwords for each online site, with anti-phishing and anti-key logging capabilities as well as military-grade data sanitisation and data protection at the end of an online transaction.
Because Securworkplace is deployed on ubiquitous USB storage devices, this solution can be used any PC running Windows XP and Windows Vista, making the vision of portable security a reality.
Users need only use one simple keystroke for multiple sites log-in, making
Securworkplace an elegant and convenient software solution for personal single sign-on. The unique aspect of this system is that the passwords are not stored on the portable storage devices, so they remain secure even if the user lost the device.
“Its portability and support for multiple sites also make it a viable alternative to token-based authentication systems such as those used by banks for two-factor authentication,” says Ohanae president and CEO, Greg Hauw.
The 10,000 selected users receive a coupon code in their e-mail to extend the standard trial period to six months.
They download the Securworkplace software from iCell Network’s Wireless@SG log-in page and install it in their USB flash drives, iPods, and selected mobile phones. At the end of the six-month free usage, they can continue using it at a special promotion price. The suggested retail price for the software is $69.99.
“Wireless Internet networks can be notoriously insecure if not implemented correctly,” says Ken Chua, CEO of iCell Network. “We are therefore delighted to team up with Ohanae whose solution will help our users secure their online experience.”
The application has three very attractive features, particularly for mobile workers: data sanitisation, data protection and online revocation.
● In the first feature, Securworkplace removes all traces of your online transaction at the end of your session. It uses military-grade (DOD 5220.20-M) data sanitisation algorithm to remove all data, history files, cookies, and other traces.
● In data protection, Securworkplace creates a hidden directory on your USB flash drive, and all data you save on it is fully-encrypted. The directory and data can only be accessed when you activate Securworkplace.
● Online revocation means that if you lost your USB flash drive, just revoke your service so no one else can use it. You can then re-install and run Securworkplace on your new flash drive.
If you have missed out on the six-month trial offer, you can still log on to:
www.icellwireless.net/securworkplace.php to register for a standard 30-day trial of the SecurWorkplace security solution.
